Student: Taking Quizzes

Quizzes in Moodle can range from quick self-checks to formal final exams. This guide explains the interface so you can focus on answering the questions, not fighting the technology.

1. Before You Start

1. Click on the Quiz link (Icon: A page with a checkmark ☑️).
2. Read the instruction page carefully. Look for:
   • Attempts allowed: Is this a one-time exam or a practice test?
   • Time limit: Once you start, a timer counts down. You cannot pause it, even if you close the browser.
   • Time limit: When the quiz opens and closes.
3. When you are ready, click Attempt quiz now.
4. A confirmation pop-up may appear reminding you of the time limit. Click Start attempt.

2. The Quiz Interface

Once inside, the screen is divided into two areas:

The Question Area (Center)

This is where you read and answer.

• Multiple Choice: Click the radio button (circle) for your answer.
• Essay: Type your answer in the text box. The editor autosaves your text every minute.
• Flag question: You will see a small flag icon next to the question number. Click this to mark a question you are unsure about so you can easily return to it later.

The Quiz Navigation (Right Sidebar)

This block shows a grid of boxes, each representing a question number.

• Grey box: Unseen question.
• Grey box with black bottom: Answered question.
• Red triangle corner: Flagged question (Needs review).
• You can click any number to jump directly to that question.

3. Navigating and Saving

• Click Next page at the bottom to move forward.
• Moodle automatically saves your answers every time you switch pages.
• If your internet crashes, don't panic. Reconnect and open the quiz again. Your previous answers should still be there (up to the last page turn).

4. Finishing the Quiz

When you have answered the last question, click Finish attempt.

You are not done yet! You will be taken to a Summary of attempt page.

• This page shows the status of all questions ("Answer saved" or "Not yet answered").
• Click a question number to go back and fix it (if time permits).
• If you are truly finished, scroll to the bottom and click Submit all and finish.

Warning: A final confirmation box will appear. You MUST click Submit all and finish a second time. Once you do this, you cannot change any answers.

5. Reviewing Results

Depending on the teacher's settings, you might see results immediately or have to wait until the quiz closes for everyone.

• Marks: Your numerical score (e.g., 8.00/10.00).
• Feedback: Comments from the teacher.
• Right/Wrong:
  • ✅ Green check: Correct.
  • ❌ Red cross: Incorrect.
  • 🟡 Yellow circle: Partially correct.
