Submitting assignments correctly is the most important technical skill you need. Moodle provides a secure way to upload your work and receive proof of submission.

1. Locating the Assignment

Assignments are identified by an icon usually depicted as a hand holding a paper document 🖐️📄.

  1. Enter your course.
  2. Scroll to the relevant week or topic (e.g., "Week 4: Final Project").
  3. Click on the Assignment link (e.g., "Submission: Case Study Analysis").

2. Understanding the Submission Status

Before you upload anything, look at the Submission status table on the assignment page.

Status Meaning
No attempt You have not uploaded anything yet.
Draft (not submitted) You uploaded a file, but you have NOT officially submitted it. You can still edit it.
Warning: Teachers might not see this if the deadline passes!
Submitted for grading Success! Your work is locked and sent to the teacher.
Overdue The deadline has passed.

3. Step-by-Step Submission Process

Step 1: Add Submission

  1. Click the grey button labeled Add submission.
  2. You will see a file upload area.

Step 2: Upload Your File

There are two ways to upload:

  • Method A: Drag and Drop (Easiest)
    • Open the folder on your computer where your file is saved.
    • Click and hold the file.
    • Drag it into the box with the big blue arrow in Moodle.
    • Release the mouse. Wait for the loading bar to finish.
  • Method B: File Picker
    • Click the File icon (top left of the box).
    • Click Upload a file → Choose File.
    • Select your document and click Open.
    • Click Upload this file.

Step 3: Save Changes

  1. Once the file icon appears in the box, click Save changes.
  2. You are now returned to the status page.
  3. STOP AND CHECK: Look at the status. Does it say "Submitted"?
    • If the system allows "Drafts", it might still say "Draft (not submitted)".

Step 4: Final Submission (The "Button of Truth")

If your status says "Draft", you must perform this final step:

  1. Click the button Submit assignment.
  2. Moodle will ask for confirmation: "Are you sure you want to submit your work for grading? You will not be able to make any more changes."
  3. Check the box confirming the work is your own (Plagiarism Statement).
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Verify the status is now green: Submitted for grading.

4. File Requirements

  • File Type: Most teachers require PDF (`.pdf`) or Word (`.docx`). Do not upload `.pages` (Mac) or `.gdoc` (Google) links unless instructed.
  • File Size: The maximum limit is usually shown on the upload screen (e.g., 50MB). If your file is too big, convert images to lower resolution or save as "Reduced Size PDF".

5. Editing or Removing a Submission

  • Before the deadline: If you haven't clicked the final "Submit" button yet, you can click Edit submission to remove the old file and upload a new one.
  • After the deadline OR After clicking Submit: You cannot change your file. You must contact your teacher or the academic office to request them to "Revert submission to draft".
